Megan was another cat that suddenly appeared one day. In her case, I found her on the Monday after Guy Fawkes Day 1989. She looked lost and I managed to corner her and take her in to our showroom without much fuss. She did not have any identification but was obviously well cared for but frightened. We asked around but no neighbour knew of her. We fed her where she was, named her Misty, and then took the usual precautions of notices on trees and checking with our vet and the local petshop's noticeboard, but no luck. Eventually we took her in to the house, being careful she could not stray again, and hoped we might be able to either adopt her or maybe find her real home.

At that time I was helping with transport for a cat rescue centre and part of the work was to take cats to and fro to the vet for owners who were not able to do so themselves. Later that month I had such a cat to collect from the centre's own vet in North Finchley and while waiting I checked their Lost and Found board and to my surprise found a cat described who seemed to be just like Megan, and was lost on the day before I found her - quite a long way from us in cat terms. Once home again I telephoned and the woman I spoke to agreed that it sounded like her cat. She came to check within an hour and the two were reunited! The story was that Megan (her real name) had got out when the local fireworks were at their height and could not be found. The owners lived at the north end of Nether Street, so Megan/Misty had travelled a long way from home to end up with us. (Our land was back land and cats found it a quiet safe place to hide when in unknown territory.) Naturally the notices about her were put up near to her home and never reached as far as our locality.

She was with us from finding her on the 6th until she went back home on 20th November 1989.
